The Ventura Film Festival operates as an all-inclusive international cinema festival that raises awareness for conservation issues such as terrestrial and aquatic preservation and renewal, via a yearly film showcase and corresponding activities. The festival leverages the impact of filmmaking to inspire action and generate significant discussion regarding these vital environmental matters.

The Ventura Film Festival launched in 2004 and has screened hundreds of films, typically more than 200 films every summer, and has garnered interest from the worldwide filmmaking community. Throughout its history, the event has developed into an important cultural gathering that connects movie directors, ecological activists, and attendees from throughout the world.

Notable moments have included presenting celebrated filmmaker Dylan O'Neil, the initial world champion surfers Peter "PT" Townend and surf legend Ian Cairns, 4x world champion Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu/MMA combatant martial arts icon Fabio Leopoldo, and the 50th Anniversary tribute to West Side Story, which featured welcoming the full Academy Award winning cast from West Side Story, featuring Oscar winner/Golden Globe winner George Chakiris together with Golden Globe winner/Oscar-nominated Russ Tamblyn. The Ventura Film Festival's founder and executive director was honored to take part, along with many of Hollywood's top stars, in the half-century commemoration of West Side Story and Hollywood's footprint/handprint ceremony for Oscar winners Rita Moreno, George Chakiris, together with Golden Globe honoree Russ Tamblyn at the website legendary Chinese Theater in Hollywood. This gathering also operated as the official BluRay premiere by Fox and MGM of the timeless West Side Story, which is commonly viewed by critics and fans as the greatest musical of all time.
